- 2 cups molasses
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 t baking powder
- 2 t baking soda
- 1 t salt
- 2 t cinnamon
- 2 t ginger
- 5 cups flour
Combine dry ingredients. Sift 2 or 3 times. In a separate bowl mix butter and molasses, add eggs and buttermilk. Work flour mixture in a handful at a time. Batter will be very thick. Place on large board with flour and knead until stiff.
Pinch off pieces (48) and form into cakes or roll out 1” thick and cut into squares.
Bake at 350 ° for 12 to 14 minutes.
